The sideSTEP HOUSE, named for its cedar-wrapped stair tower and how the home ‘sidesteps’ the live oak tree in its courtyard, packs major style and performance into a modest footprint.  The lines its hipped roof and volumes create are subtle yet sexy, especially at night.

Inside, an intelligent floorplan with multi-purpose rooms designed to maximize the functionality of every space. Bright and airy, the interiors are thoughtfully connected with the outdoors and balance light and flow with privacy and definition of spaces. Soaring ceilings and expansive panes of high performance windows and sliders give way to the integrated feeling of indoor-outdoor living. The crisp and clean palette allows the details and finishes to stand out.

A spacious, high ceiling living room is the central focus of the home, connecting all the common spaces, and drawing your attention to the custom hand fabricated steel railing. For the chef, we’ve designed a showpiece kitchen featuring a quartz waterfall island, an Italian 6-burner Bertazzoni range, custom cabinetry and wood wrapped island. The space is further distinguished by tongue and groove cedar ceiling while designer pendant lighting finishes the space. An adjacent formal dining room can also function as a spacious private office/study.

All these spaces are highly connected to the central courtyard through black framed sliders while a wraparound cedar deck provides multiple options for outdoor living beneath the oak tree canopy. The master suite is a true sanctuary with LED recessed lighting, designer trim, wide picture window for natural light, oversized walk-in shower and closet.

The second floor also performs with style and multi-functionality of every space. An upstairs ‘loft’ space serves as extra living space, playroom, or media area. Large secondary bedrooms with ample storage and a second bath shines with unique hinged mirrors that rotate 90 degrees to feature a window wall for natural light. The laundry room is a highly functional space but also features a wet bar with a pass-through window for serving drinks to your guests on the outdoor balcony. The eucalyptus wood flooring throughout the 2nd floor is exceptional for its hardiness and renewable nature.

Outdoors, in addition to the decks and balcony surrounding the courtyard, there is a fenced yard with lots of privacy while the carport, with its ample locking storage and commercial grade electric gate, doubles as a party pavilion with a cedar soffit and recessed lighting.

For those who appreciate building science, green-building and efficient home performance is at the heart of every Newcastle project. This Energy Star 3.0 certified home features an 18-SEER Nest controlled premium Bosch HVAC system, foam insulation beneath a standing seam metal roof, and much more. The robust built-in home automation/security system features Z Wave technology, expandable programmability, and round-the-clock peace of mind and convenience.
